Our Story

In the late 1990s, Matt Lawrence, founder of The Great Canadian Bungee Corporation and Bungee Consultants International, began fielding inquiries from coaches of high-level athletes looking to gain a competitive edge in their respective sports. They wanted to use our unique, high-stretch bungee ropes to create Variable Resistance Training (VRT) exercises and programs. While scientifically proven to improve explosiveness and acceleration, this leading-edge training method was still not widely used. Usually, each inquiry was to make a customized piece of equipment based on the client's own design that would fit into their custom training regimen.

The movement was very grassroots but as the success of the products grew and the word spread of our willingness to create these custom products, the inquiries increased until Matt decided to create a separate company to handle the volume and to specialize in the creation of these unique products. Bungee Athletics (BA) was born! Being in Canada, many of our clients were hockey coaches or hockey schools. Eventually, it became clear that almost anyone participating in hockey could benefit from this type of training so BA developed its first “off-the-shelf”, one size fits all product that everyone could buy and use. Bungee Skate ™, the world’s first standardized VRT product for the hockey industry was born! Other hockey products followed. Products for other sports followed that.

Today the professionals know that our Canadian-made bungee products are the secret weapon for athletes. Our team of engineers, designers and craftsmen are dedicated to assisting athletes in reaching their full potential, creating new solutions, and improving existing products for the needs of both trainer and athlete.
